Clearing the Path to Creativity
Hello Dear Artists:
Welcome to the magnificent month of March 2021!
I can almost hear you thinking...
"Spring is just around the corner and I can't wait to get back into my creativity".
A new idea percolates with the heady feeling of a seedling breaking ground in a field of poppies. This wonderful creative excitement leads to visions of singing on stage, painting a Monet-like masterpiece or launching that new entrepreneurial idea. Whatever the new thing is, big or small, it leaves you feeling ready for the ride.
Sometimes jumping in the deep end with both feet can work out okay, but often big moves cause unforeseen circumstances and tough times down the road. I believe some careful inner examination is necessary if you wish to avoid pitfalls and remain in creative flow from beginning to end.
For some creative clarification, below are a few powerful journal prompt questions to answer.
How can I realistically fit this new project into my life right now?
What part of this project makes me feel excited and happy?
What is it gonna take to get going? List 5 things.
What makes me afraid about this project? Why?
Consider the word "Prudence"
For some reason, I've been hearing this word a lot lately. Since I wasn't familiar with the meaning, I finally looked it up.
PRUDENCE: 1) the ability to govern and discipline oneself by the use of reason. 2) shrewdness in the management of affairs 3) skill and good judgment in the use of resources. 4) caution or circumspection as to danger or risk
Clearing the Path to Creativity
It may look from the outside that to be prudent is to be fearful. It may look like you are overthinking a situation or delaying things until further resources are developed. But a healthy dose of prudent behavior means that you have used your own thinking and internal wisdom to make a decision based on what you know. Clearing your mind and spirit to prepare for the creative process is a prudent move and lays the groundwork for success later on.
Coupled with determination and excitement, prudence is a useful tool to help prepare the creative artist wisely for the journey ahead.
Together, let's be prudent about our next move.
