The #1 Reason People Sign Up For Vocal Lessons

"I STILL HAVE MY FEET ON THE GROUND, I JUST WEAR BETTER SHOES"

- OPRAH WINFREY -

Hello Friends,

For the next 5 months, I am making a new commitment. I will be delivering regular blogs directly to your inbox. I’ll be talking music stuff  - how to write a great song, how to sing with more gusto, and what it means to be an artist working in the music business. I will bring everything I know to you and I am hoping to be of service and share what I know. Please connect with me, share the blogs and tell me what you would like to hear about most. I’ll do my best to answer any of your questions, thoughts and comments. Keep your eye on your inboxes on Tuesdays and/or Saturdays. Hope you stay along for the ride….

A little update first. I have fully completed the wonderful, painstakingly difficult, crazy and blissful experience of writing my first book. The full manuscript is with the editors right now and for the first time in two years, I can stop and take a moment to look up at the blue sky and notice the clouds as they float by; and also breathe deep enough to look down at my shoes in an effort to remind myself of where I am on the earth right now. In the process of deep creativity, a lot gets pushed to the sidelines. We might forget what it’s like to get a full night's sleep, to buy new underwear (sad but true) or what it means to enjoy a good meal with a friend. This has certainly been the case for me.

When we take a moment to come back to where we are, it’s a good time to take stock at what is important. I still get a great kick out of working with my students, in all their glorious vocal varieties, and I always enjoy working with them to accomplish something of value.
Although some students are clear about why they enter vocal training, most show up not fully understanding why they came to see me. When I ask the Why question, I get answers like “Well….I’ve always wanted to sing since I was a kid”, “I like to sing and write songs”, or “I want to sing a solo at my church this Christmas. Do you think I’ll be ready?”. But mostly I notice something else. I notice a deeper vague, not so defined reason, for showing up and trying out this new challenging thing called Vocal Coaching.

As students begin the process of training, a deeper realization begins to set in. They begin to discover more - more love, more laughter, more discipline in their lives and more connection to their deeper selves.

THE #1 REASON ADULTS SIGN UP FOR VOCAL LESSONS, IS BECAUSE THEY WANT TO FIND OUT WHO THEY REALLY ARE.

They are seekers who want to be able to breathe deep enough to look down at their shoes and discover who they really are as they stand on the earth; and they want to challenge themselves to do something out of the ordinary. They are brave because they have answered the impulse in their heart leading them toward the mystery of something more.

Most people who walk through my doors do so with a sense of fear, wonder and bravery.

I am so proud of them for that.
